Yemen Culture
Yemen is one of the oldest civilization countries in the near east. If you go to Yemen, you will find out that Yemen has a magnificent culture. Yemeni culture has been passed from generation to generation. In addition, Yemeni people have maintain from there culture until now because it reflect from the history of Yemen. The Yemenis culture has many branches, but if you want to understand Yemenis culture, you have to know the most important aspect of tradition: architecture, traditional weddings, and food.
First, the houses in Yemen have unique architecture that you cannot find it in any other country around the world. Yemeni people build the houses in traditional style. Also, Yemeni people always build the houses of strong rocks such as, volcanic rooks. Also at the top of each window, there is a half cercal called gamrea. In the top of the building, they have a big traditional pattern, but inside of the house, they have a pattern made of gypsum in each room. Houses also have artistic work on wooden doors and windows .all this makes Yemeni houses magnificent and unique.
Second, Yemeni traditional wedding is different from other countries. Before they get marred, they get engaged and it continues for several days after that they get married. In addition, the first day called Alaz-Zaffa; this is the most important day of the wedding. The Zaffa started in the early morning, the groom will go to a big place. Family, people, guests, and friends will come to congratulate him. Then people will give gifts such as perfume and watches. Also some people will bring animals such as oxes and sheep. Then they will go to eat food. After that, they will go to chew qat. For the women it is the same, but in the afternoon they will dance and sing. Also means are not allowed to enter the womens celebration. In the end of the day, they take the bride to the grooms house. As you see, Yemenis traditional wedding is not similar to other countries.
Third, Yemen has many kinds of food and some food is traditional. People are usually eat there traditionally cooked food in Yemeni houses or restaurants. Many things come with one meal such as double pizza-size bread that is made in traditional ovens. Zeahawk that consist of salsa made from green chili, tomatoes, garlic and locally made feta cheese. Fata with honey that consists of traditional bread ground together with either bananas or dates, and lavishly mixed with honey. Aqda a meat and vegetables combination mixed with spicy tomato sauce, lightly curried lamb with basmati rice. All these kinds are the famous food in Yemen and they do help of understand the Yemeni culture.
In summary, every country has their old civilization and traditions but Yemeni culture is different from most of the world due to different houses, food and traditional weddings. Also, Yemeni should maintain there traditions because they reflect them and every one in Yemen should know these things.
